وَشادٍand a singer رَخيمِsweet-toned الصّوتِthe voice كالبدرِlike the full moon وَجههُhis face
وَشادٍ رَخيمِ الصّوتِ كالبدرِ وَجههُ
تَغَنّىhe sang عَلىto the accompaniment of عودٍan oud وَنَحنُand we نُصَفِّقُwe clap
تَغَنّى عَلى عودٍ وَنَحنُ نُصَفِّقُ
And a sweet-voiced singer, his face like the full moon,
With a melodious voice like the full moon is his face
Sang to the accompaniment of an oud while we clapped.
He sang to an oud while we clapped along
وَمُذْand when مَسَّهُhe touched it عادَتreturned إِلَيهِto it حَياتهits life
وَمُذْ مَسَّهُ عادَت إِلَيهِ حَياته
أَلَستَdo you not تَراهُyou see it إِذwhen تَحَرَّكit moved يَنطقُit speaks
أَلَستَ تَراهُ إِذ تَحَرَّك يَنطقُ
And when he touched it, its life returned to it;
And since it touched him, life returned to him
Do you not see it speak when it moves?
Can you not see him as he stirs, he speaks
