وَشُمَّand smell مِنsome of نَفحَهِits fragrance الشّافيhealing منfrom الوصَبِillness
Look at the silken lily as it appeared,
Behold the purple iris when it appeared
And inhale its fragrance, a cure for illness.
And smell its healing scent, free from turmoil
فَقَدfor indeed غَزاinvaded ريحُهits fragrance فيinto ريحِthe odor of ذيone possessing نتَنٍa stench
فَفَرَّso it fled مُنهَزِماًdefeated فيin خَوفِfear مضطربِtrembling
For its fragrance has invaded the odor of something foul,
For its fragrance has invaded the stench of decay
So it fled, defeated and trembling with fear.
So it fled defeated in trembling distress
لَوif لَمnot يَكُنbeen غازِياًa warrior ماnot كانwould have تَوَّجَهُcrowned it
واليthe governor of الزّهورِthe flowers بِريشاتٍwith plumes مِنَof الذَّهبِgold
Had it not been a warrior, it would not have been crowned
Had it not been an invader, it would not have turned
By the governor of flowers with plumes of gold.
To the lord of flowers in feathers of gold
