We asked you for something; had you graciously granted it to us,
We asked you for something if you would grant it to us
we would have known that your affection was genuine.
You made us know that your affection is true
تجودyou give generously علىto منone who ليسis not أهلاًworthy لهof it بهwith it
تجود على من ليس أهلاً له به
وأنتyet you are بهwith it للمتسحقtoward the deserving شحيحstingy
وأنت به للمتسحق شحيح
You give it generously to one who is unworthy of it,
You bestow on one who is not worthy of it
yet you are stingy with it toward the deserving.
While you are miserly with it towards the downtrodden
بأيby what دليلjustification تمنعyou deny الحقthe right أهلهthose entitled to it
بأي دليل تمنع الحق أهله
وتمنحهand you grant it ذاone possessing خسةٍbaseness وتبيحand you permit it
وتمنحه ذا خسةٍ وتبيح
By what justification do you deny a right to those entitled to it,
By what proof do you deny the deserving their right
and grant it to a base man and sanction it?
And grant it to the mean and sanction it
