  4. انتم أناس سكارى

    في غيكم بل نيام

    You are drunken folk,

    In your waywardness—rather, asleep.

  5. لما رأينا جفاكم

    حقاً وطال الكلام

    When we saw your coldness

    In truth, and the talk dragged on,

  6. لمنا النفوس فقالت

    حاشا علينا ملام

    We blamed our souls, so they said:

    Far be it that blame should fall on us!

  7. إن الملام عليكم

    إن دام هذا الهيام

    Indeed, the blame lies with you,

    If this infatuation persists.

  8. هونوا فانتم كرام

    وللكرام احترام

    Be gentle, for you are noble,

    And the noble deserve respect.
