How I yearn for a vision of the beloved! Would that I
My longing for seeing my beloved, I wish
had parted with my soul before the day of parting from him.
I had parted with my soul before the day we parted

والقلب أربى الشوق في إحراقه
I bade him farewell while tears flowed between us,
I bid him farewell with tears flowing between us
and longing burned the heart ever more fiercely.
My heart burning with intense yearning

والوجه يزري الشمس في إشراقه
He turned his gaze toward me at the moment of parting,
He glanced at me when we were about to part
and his face put the sun to shame with its radiance.
His radiant face outshining the rising sun
سقياًmay rain fall لربعfor an abode قدindeed نشىhe grew up فيهin it ولوeven if

جار الظلوم علي في إطلاقه
May rain bless the abode where he grew up, even if
To water a meadow where he had reveled, though
the cruel one wronged me in letting go.
Injustice prevails, unrestrained in its onslaught
