لِعِيّ ولم يَثْنِ اللسَانَ عَلَى هُجْرِ
When he speaks, he leaves nothing more to say and does not falter
If he spoke, he left no saying, nor did he stop
through inarticulacy, nor does he turn his tongue to foul speech.
For a companion, nor did his tongue praise separation
يُصْرّفُhe directs بالقولِin speech اللِسَانَthe tongue إذاwhen انتحَىhe sets himself to it

ويَنْظُرُ في أعطافِهِ نَظَرَ الصّقْرِ
He directs his tongue in speech when he sets himself to it,
He turns his tongue with speech when he withdraws
and looks to his sides with a falcon's gaze.
And looks askance like a falcon
