أَبْقَى الحوادثُ من خَلي
لِكَyour (completes 'your friend') مثلَlike جَنْدَلَةِa boulder المَراجِمْthe catapults
لِكَ مثلَ جَنْدَلَةِ المَراجِمْ
The turns of fate have left of your friend
The vicissitudes of fate are lasting
one like a catapult's boulder,
Like the firmness of a sturdy tent pole
صُلْباًsteadfast إذاwhen خَارَfaltered الرّجاthe men (word continues)
صُلْباً إذا خَارَ الرّجا
لُcompletion of 'the men' أَبَلّunyielding مُمْتَنِعَresistant to الشّكائِمْthe bridle-bits
لُ أَبَلّ مُمْتَنِعَ الشّكائِمْ
steadfast when men falter,
Steadfast when men's hopes diminish
unyielding, resisting the bridle-bits.
I am resolute, impervious to complaints
قدalready رَامَنيsought to subdue me الأعداءُthe enemies قَبْbefore (word continues)
قد رَامَني الأعداءُ قَبْ
لكَyou (completes 'before you') فامتنعتُso I refused to submit عَنِto المظالمْinjustices
لكَ فامتنعتُ عَنِ المظالمْ
Enemies have sought to subdue me before
Though enemies have assailed me
you, but I refused to submit to injustice.
I have refrained from wronging others
