يا حسينُ بنَ عَلِيّ ليس ما

يا حسينُ بنَ عَلِيّ ليس ما

جِئْتَ بالسّائغِ يَوْماً في العِلَلْ

جِئْتَ بالسّائغِ يَوْماً في العِلَلْ

O Husayn, son of Ali, what

O Hussein son of Ali, nothing

you have brought is never acceptable as an excuse.

That you have donePleases on any day when ill,

أَخْذُكَ المالَ لم يُؤْمَرْ به

أَخْذُكَ المالَ لم يُؤْمَرْ به

إنّ هذا من حُسَيْنٍ لَعَجَلْ

إنّ هذا من حُسَيْنٍ لَعَجَلْ

Your taking the money was not ordered.

Taking money was not ordered of you,

Indeed, this is sheer haste on Husayn's part.

This is surely rashness in Hussein.

يا حسينُ بنَ عَلِيّ ذا الأَمَلْ

يا حسينُ بنَ عَلِيّ ذا الأَمَلْ

لك بعدي وَثْبةٌ لا تُحْتَمَلْ

لك بعدي وَثْبةٌ لا تُحْتَمَلْ

O Husayn, son of Ali, you who have hope,

O Hussein son of Ali, you of hope,

after me, you will make a leap that cannot be borne.

After me you will make a leap not to be borne,

وبودّي أنّني شاهدُها

وبودّي أنّني شاهدُها

فَأَلِيهَا مِنْكَ بالخُلقِ الأجَلْ

فَأَلِيهَا مِنْكَ بالخُلقِ الأجَلْ

And I wish I could witness it,

And I wish I could witness it

so I might handle it from you with the noblest disposition.

And treat you with the finest manners,

ليس بعدي لكَ مَنْ يَحْمِلُها

ليس بعدي لكَ مَنْ يَحْمِلُها

ليسَ بين المالِ والوَثْبِ عَمَلْ

ليسَ بين المالِ والوَثْبِ عَمَلْ

After me, you will have no one to bear it.

After me there is none who could bear it

There is no action between money and the leap.

No link between money and the leap,

إنّني أَرْهَبُ أنْ تَصْلَى بِمَنْ

إنّني أَرْهَبُ أنْ تَصْلَى بِمَنْ

عنده قَدْ سَبَقَ السّيْفُ العَذَلْ

عنده قَدْ سَبَقَ السّيْفُ العَذَلْ

Indeed, I fear you may be scorched by one

I fear you will pray with those

whose sword has already outstripped reproach.

Whose sharp swords did first flash.
