I will handle it for you ماwhat عنديwith me فَقُلْso tell لابنto the son of عَامِرٍʿĀmir
وصاحِبِand the ruler of مصرٍEgypt يَكفيانِthey both handle الذيthat which أَكْفيI handle
I will handle for you what is in my charge; so tell Ibn ʿĀmir
I will suffice you with what I have, so say to Ibn Aamir
and Egypt’s ruler: let them both handle what I handle.
And the companion of Egypt, they will suffice what I suffice
وإلاّand if not فإنّيthen indeed I والذيby Him whom أناI عبدهHis servant
مَليءٌfully capable بضبطيof my controlling ماwhat أمامِيbefore me وَمَاand what خَلْفيbehind me
Otherwise, I—by Him whose servant I am—
And if not, then I, by the One whom I worship,
am fully able to control what lies before me and what lies behind me.
Am full with my composure before me and behind me
ولَسْتُand I am not بذيone possessed of وجهينِtwo faces ألقاكI meet you بالذيwith what
تريدُyou want ويُخْفِيand he hides فيin السَّريرهِthe inner self ماwhat يُخْفيhe hides
Nor am I a two-faced man who meets you with what
And I am not two-faced, I will meet you with what
you want, yet hides in his heart what he hides.
You want, and conceal in privacy what is concealed
لأنّيfor I إذاthen عِرضيmy honor لكَfor you اليومَtoday دونَهمْto their exclusion
وحَتْفُكَand your death فيماin that which يَنْتِجُونَthey bring about بهby means of it حَتْفَيmy death
For then my honor today is yours, not theirs,
Because if today my honor is attacked without them
and your death lies in what they use to bring about mine.
And your downfall is in what they produce, so is mine
