Your eyes would do nothing but stream with tears,

and this heart would do nothing but melt.

Why, then, do you fear the watchers so much

that you forsook sleep, deeming it a watcher?

And your night rose against you [in?] mourning,

rending its garments over your misfortunes.

vying with me in yearning and sobbing.

    كلانا يا حمامةُ قد أصيبا

    I aid her, and she aids me in lamentation;

both of us, O dove, have been stricken.

Leave life's cares to one who has a heart,

for passionate love has left us no hearts.

And do not forget your brother and what he suffers

when he is a stranger in the world.

For a person is forgotten if he goes far away,

and his companions remember him when he is near.

May God protect you! Is there a lover like me,

now that Muhammad has become my beloved?

My intercessor on the day no intercessor avails,

    and my remedy on the day I find no physician;

and my succor when my supporter forsakes me,

and my rain if my abode becomes barren.

And in his refuge I am safe from the perils of my time

and its calamities, even if it grows wrathful.

And I remember him, and every calamity is dispelled,

even if its firmly rooted mountains were calamities.

O Messenger of God, I have come to you seeking help,

and your generosity guarantees that I shall not be disappointed.

When will my days grow green and flourish,

and the stem of my hopes become fresh and supple?

For the world has closed in on me, and there have blown

its calamities upon my heart in gusts.

And I have no helper but my love for you,

so perhaps a share of care will be mine.
