وذي دلالٍ قال خذْ في المنى

فقلتُ عيشٌ رغدٌ سائغُ

When sweet days had passed, he said: take your pleasures,

I replied: a life of ease and joy.

ويومَ وصلٍ قالَ حسبي إذنْ

هذا كلامٌ في الهوى فارغُ

And a day we met, he said: enough for me then -

This talk of love is empty and void.
