زرعناwe sowed فلمbut did not نحصدْreap وكانand were جدودناour forefathers
زرعنا فلم نحصدْ وكان جدودنا
متىwhenever يبذرواthey sow فيin أرضناour land الحبَّthe grain يحصدواthey reap
متى يبذروا في أرضنا الحبَّ يحصدوا
We sowed but did not reap, while our forefathers
We have sown but did not reap, while our ancestors
Would reap whenever they sowed grain in our land.
Whenever they sowed the seeds of love in our land, they reaped it
وماand not قتلَkilled المحلُthe drought البلادَthe land وإنماbut rather
وما قتلَ المحلُ البلادَ وإنما
أصابstruck الصداrust محراثناour plow فهوso it is مبردُa file (tool)
أصاب الصدا محراثنا فهو مبردُ
And it was not drought that killed the land; rather,
It's not the homelands that were killed, but rather
Rust struck our plow, so it is now a file.
Our plowshares were struck by rust, so they have become cold
