منىwishes النفسِof the soul لوif only بقيتْremained ليfor me المنىthe wishes
ومنand who للشقيِّfor the wretched one بيومٍwith a day سعيدِhappy
The soul's wishes—if only wishes remained mine!
If my wishes remained wishes
And who will bring the wretched a happy day?
And the unfortunate had a happy day
تعيدُrestore إليناto us السرورَthe joy القديمold
كأنَّاas though we خُلقناwere created بهاthrough them منfrom جديدِnew
They restore to us the joy of old,
It would bring back to us the old joy
As though through them we were created anew,
As if we were created anew
وتذكرناand remind us الأزمنthe times الخالياتbygone
كذكرِlike the remembrance of العظيمِthe great man لياليnights of المهودِthe cradles
And remind us of times gone by,
And remind us of the empty days
As a great man recalls his cradle nights.
Like the memory of glorious nights of revelry
فهاتِso bring it اسقنيgive me drink بالكؤوسِin the goblets الكبارlarge
فماfor how أحسنَbeautiful الفمُّthe mouth فوقَabove النهودِthe breasts
So bring it—give me drink in large goblets;
So pass me the large goblets
For how lovely is the mouth above the breasts!
For nothing is better than the mouth above the breasts
نضارُpure gold لمنfor one who يدهُhis hand كالنحاسlike copper
ونارٌand fire لمنfor one who قلبهhis heart كالحديدِlike iron
Pure gold for one whose hand is like copper,
Vitality for he whose hand is like brass
And fire for one whose heart is like iron.
And fire for he whose heart is like iron
