وقطعةand a fragment منof جفاءestrangement

فيwithin قطعةa fragment منof سلامpeace
في قطعة من سلام
and a fragment of estrangement
And a piece of aloofness
within a fragment of peace?

أضيءI shine كالنجمlike a star لكنbut

فيin وحدةsolitude وظلامand darkness

I shine like a star, but

وماand what أكابدI endure ناراًfire

تندىgrows dewy كطلّlike dew الغمامthe clouds
تندى كطلّ الغمام
What use is my soul's tenderness,
No use is the softness of my soul
dewy as the dew of clouds,
Condensing like the clouds' dew
وكلُّand all ماthat هوit حوليaround me
وكلُّ ما هو حولي
كحلقlike a throat عطشانthirsty ظاميparched
كحلق عطشان ظامي
when everything around me
And all that is around me
is like a thirsty, parched throat?
Is like a thirsty, dark ring
ياO واصليyou who draw close to me بالمعانيthrough meanings
يا واصلي بالمعاني
وهاجريand you who forsake me فيin الكلامspeech
وهاجري في الكلام
O you who draw close to me through meanings,
O you who reaches me through meanings
and forsake me in speech,
And travels through words
مخاصميyou who quarrel with me فيin نهاريmy day
مخاصمي في نهاري
مصالحيyou who make peace with me فيin مناميmy dreams
مصالحي في منامي
who quarrel with me during my day,
My opponent in my day
who make peace with me in my dreams:
My reconciler in my dream
