أراكَ تنظرُ للغزلانِ شاردةً

أراكَ تنظرُ للغزلانِ شاردةً

ولا يردُ شبا عينيكَ عينانِ

ولا يردُ شبا عينيكَ عينانِ

I see you gazing at wandering gazelles,

I see you gazing at the wandering gazelles,

yet no pair of eyes can withstand the keen edge of yours.

And no pair of eyes repels the sharp points of your eyes.

ما دمتَ تهوى حبيباً فالفؤادُ لهُ

ما دمتَ تهوى حبيباً فالفؤادُ لهُ

وليسَ ينزلُ في قلبٍ حبيبانِ

وليسَ ينزلُ في قلبٍ حبيبانِ

So long as you love a beloved, the heart belongs to him;

So long as you love a beloved, the heart is his,

nor can two beloveds dwell within a single heart.

And two beloveds do not dwell in one heart.
