أبصرتهُ تحتَ ظلامِ الدجى

تضيءُ في خديهِ لي جمرتانِ

I saw him beneath the darkness of night.

Two embers glow for me in his cheeks.

فقلتُ في الخدينِ نارُ الحشا

فقلتُ في الخدينِ نارُ الحشا

فقالَ لكنْ فيهما جنتانِ

فقالَ لكنْ فيهما جنتانِ

So I said, “In those cheeks is the heart’s fire.”

And he said, “But in them are two gardens.”
