أمسيتُ من يومِ النوى فَزِعا
ويليwoe to me علىfor يومِthe day of النوىparting ويليwoe to me
ويلي على يومِ النوى ويلي
I reached evening terrified by the day of parting.
Last night my heart was restless and distraught
Woe to me for the day of parting, woe to me!
Alas for the night of parting! Alas, my plight!
وأتىand came الصباحُthe morning بكلِّwith every داهيةٍcalamity
وأتى الصباحُ بكلِّ داهيةٍ
فخرجتُso I emerged منfrom ليلٍnight إلىinto ليلِnight
فخرجتُ من ليلٍ إلى ليلِ
And morning came with every calamity,
Morning came bringing every misfortune
So I emerged from night into night.
From night into deeper night was I brought
