رأيتُ نساءَ الزمانِ كثاراً

رأيتُ نساءَ الزمانِ كثاراً

وحسبكَ واحدةٌ في الزمانْ

وحسبكَ واحدةٌ في الزمانْ

I have seen the women of the age in great numbers;

I saw the women of the age as many,

Yet one woman in a lifetime is enough for you.

Yet one suffices you in the age.

فإن رمتها فالتمسْ وصفها

فإن رمتها فالتمسْ وصفها

فقدء ميزتْ بصفاتٍ ثمانْ

فقدء ميزتْ بصفاتٍ ثمانْ

So if you desire her, seek out her qualities,

If you throw her, seek her attributes,

For she is distinguished by eight traits:

For she was characterized by eight traits:

بوجهِ الجمالِ ورأسِ الذكاءِ

بوجهِ الجمالِ ورأسِ الذكاءِ

وعينِ العفافِ وصدقِ اللسانْ

وعينِ العفافِ وصدقِ اللسانْ

A face of beauty and a head of intelligence,

The face of beauty, the head of intelligence,

And an eye of chastity and a truthful tongue,

The eye of chastity, the tongue of truth,

وقلبِ الحبِّ وصدرِ الصبورِ

وقلبِ الحبِّ وصدرِ الصبورِ

ونفسِ الكمالِ ودمِّ الحنانْ

ونفسِ الكمالِ ودمِّ الحنانْ

And a heart of love and a patient breast,

The heart of love, the bosom of patience,

And a soul of perfection and blood of tenderness.

The soul of perfection, the blood of affection.

وتلكَ هي السعدُ من نالها

وتلكَ هي السعدُ من نالها

فقد صارَ من بيتهِ في الجنانْ

فقد صارَ من بيتهِ في الجنانْ

And that woman is good fortune itself; whoever wins her

She is bliss for whoever attains her,

Has indeed passed from his home into the gardens of paradise.

For he becomes of the house in Paradise.

ومن لم يكنْ حسنُها هكذا

ومن لم يكنْ حسنُها هكذا

فسخريةٌ عدُّها في الحسانْ

فسخريةٌ عدُّها في الحسانْ

And she whose beauty is not like this—

And whoever she is not so beautiful to,

To count her among beautiful women is a mockery.

It is mockery to count her among the beautiful.
