Have the days stumbled in their orbit?

Or is Time like this, and mankind—

its people divided between guidance and error,

and its nights full of radiance and darkness?

And I see us suffer throughout life's span,

and the bridle is the enemy of the marked steeds.

    إن بعضاً من الطيور الحمامُ

    Not all you behold are people;

indeed, only some birds are doves.

And all mankind have heads; if

reason is absent, delusions are there.

Speak on, Hind, of your Messiah: I remain,

while the idols in your house have vanished.

The plague was in your body, and

the sickness has since crept into the mind.

Delusion for the young man and those who followed him!

Dawn has broken, yet the graves slumber.

Did the jinn anoint him, or disfigure him?

And did calamity take charge of him, or a spell-caster?

And the peoples came to him in succession—no wonder:

    flies crowd upon a wound.

And if there is error in the heads,

the feet halt at the point of intention.

    وجديرق بناسخيهِ الحسامُ

    He abolished the sword in abasement and hypocrisy;

and the keen sword befits those who abolish it.

    O you Messiah, the nights

are Time's arrows against their own children.

And I see Time as warfare; long ago

    this strife existed among mankind.

So lift the earth above your two palms, and command—

then peace will fill the earth.

Or return to heaven, for the devils—

heaven's gate is forbidden to them.

And challenge mankind with your folly, or with

your rhymed prose; sleep has dreams of its own.

If you asked the donkey when you see it

braying, it would say, 'These are judgments.'
