Burden your heart with what it can bear, and do not be
Bear what your heart can bear, and do not be
Sorrowful, for sorrow cannot be borne.
Sorrowful, for sorrow cannot be borne

How many a pauper has had wealth at his door by evening!
How many a flatterer has prosperity left
And how often destitution has cast him upon the dust!
Standing at his door, while fickleness has cast him down!

Sleep, yet their mounts are driven onward.
They sleep, while the riding-beasts are driven along
