لم يئنْ قربُهُ

Separation from one has worn me thin

Whose nearness has not yet come:

شادنٌ لم يزل

شادنٌ لم يزل

قاسياً قلبهُ

قاسياً قلبهُ

A young gazelle who has remained

Cruel of heart.

إن يقولوا لهُ

إن يقولوا لهُ

مضَّه حبُهُ

مضَّه حبُهُ

If they say to him,

"His love has tormented him,"

قال عذري الهوى

قال عذري الهوى

والهوى ذنبهُ

والهوى ذنبهُ

He says, "My excuse is passion,

And passion is his sin."
