فقدfor indeed غابvanished فيin الليلthe night الطويلlong منof الهجرseparation
Ah, breeze of dawn, greet my dawn,
O morning breeze, greet my dawn
For it has vanished in the long night of separation.
For it was absent in the long night of estrangement
تضيءshine اللياليthe nights بالنجومwith the stars وبدرهاand their full moon
وليلand the night الجفاof estrangement منfrom غيرwithout نجمa star ولاnor بدرa full moon
The nights shine with stars and their full moon,
The nights are lit by stars and the full moon
But the night of estrangement has neither star nor full moon.
While the night of estrangement has no stars or full moon

حسيراًweary وأقدارwhile the decrees الغرامof passionate love بناwith us تجريrun their course
I stood—and what can I do by standing?—
I stood still, what can I achieve by standing
Weary, while love's decrees carry us along.
Miserable while the fate of passion flows through us

I turn my eyes toward every ray of light,
I look around with my eyes at every glimmer
On the horizon in a star, or on earth in blossoms.
In a star on the horizon or flower on earth

Alas for my heart! Why does it yearn whenever
Oh my aching heart that grieves whenever
The semblance of a smile appears to it upon lips?
A resemblance of a smile appeared on the lips

When, O beloved of my heart, will your abandonment end?
When, O beloved of my heart, does your abandonment end
Yet my patience ran out in its very first days.
While from the start of days, my patience ended

Ah, breeze of dawn, if you pass among the hills,
O morning breeze, if you pass in the countryside
Quietly, like the beloved's greeting in secret,
Secretly like a lover's greeting in private

And their maidens rise to meet you, swaying,
And her limbs rose to meet you bending
Coquettish and proud, in their gauzy green robes,
Coquettishly playing in her green tresses

And the blossoms of the boughs open their eyelids,
The buds of the branches opened their eyelids
Where the drowsy remnants of the hours before dawn linger,
With remnants of sleepiness from night's magic

And you become like solace, fluttering down,
And it became like a swallow fluttering down
As peace upon the heart of the pool or the river,
Giving greetings to the heart of the stream or river

Then bring me the secret of blossoms, water, and dew,
Bring me the secret of the flowers, water and dew
Perhaps with them I can quench love's burning ache in my breast.
Perhaps through them I can quench the burning in my chest
