ومن جوى يا ما أشدَّ الجوى
I complained of the burning anguish within my heart,
I complained of the burning anguish in my heart,
and of consuming passion—oh, how fierce that passion is!
and of lovesickness—oh, how fierce lovesickness is!

So he yielded to my glance; and when he saw
So he leaned at my glance; and when he saw

And the gazelle—whenever its eye grows languid—
And the gazelle, when its eye grows languid,
has its graceful neck mimic that languor, and so it bends.
its neck takes on that same languor, and bends.
