أشارَhe gestured ليto me بسلامٍwith a greeting
أشارَ لي بسلامٍ
ومقلتاهُand his eyes بحربِwith war
ومقلتاهُ بحربِ
He gestured a greeting to me,
He gestured to me in greeting,
while his two eyes were waging war.
while his eyes declared war.
فماand scarcely رفعتُI raised يمينيmy right hand
فما رفعتُ يميني
حتىwhen هوتْit fell فوقَupon قلبيmy heart
حتى هوتْ فوقَ قلبي
No sooner had I raised my right hand
I had scarcely raised my right hand
than it fell upon my heart.
when it fell upon my heart.
