By God, O moon of heaven—does he know,
By God, O full moon of heaven, has he learned—
your brother, that I am engulfed by death?
your brother—that I am in the depths of death?

Longing kills me, and so does this distance,
Longing kills me, and this separation,
and that enchantment, and those eyes.
and that enchantment, and those eyes.

I count myself Khosrow, so proud am I of him—
I would deem myself Kisra, for my pride in him,
were it not that I have hidden what they worship.
had I not harbored within me what they worship.

I see the world as nothing but my kingdom,
And I see the world as nothing but my kingdom;
and this madness is one of love’s many arts.
and among love's arts is this madness.
ياO بدرُfull moon بلغهُconvey to him سلاميmy greeting وقفْand pause
واشرحَand explain لهُto him ماwhat أحدثَbrought about العاذلونْthe reproachers
O moon, bear him my greetings; stand awhile,
O full moon, convey my greeting to him, and pause;
and explain to him what the reproachers have wrought.
and explain to him what the reproachers have wrought.
سبحانَglory be to منthe One who صورهُfashioned him فتنةًa temptation

Glory be to Him who fashioned him as a temptation:
Glory be to the One who fashioned him as a temptation:
he torments the people, yet they do not grow angry.
he torments people, yet they do not grow angry.
