This is my book; I have made its ink
This is my book, I have made its ink
my eye, and my pens are ribs that throb.
My eyes and my pens are ribs that palpitate
حمّلتُهُI burdened it شكوىa lament إليكَto you جمعتهاI gathered it
منfrom كلِّevery قلبٍheart فيin البريةِcreation يعشقُloves
I burdened it with a lament to you that I gathered
I have loaded it with complaints to you that I gathered
from every heart in creation that loves.
From every heart in the wilderness that yearns
أولاand do you not تراهُsee it يئنُّgroans منfrom ألمِthe pain of الجوىlove’s anguish
ويكادُand almost بالشوقِwith longing المبرحِagonizing ينطقُspeaks
And do you not see it groaning in love’s anguish,
Do not see it first moaning from the pain of love
and almost speaking with agonizing longing?
And about to speak with ecstatic longing
