عَن الأَوائِل إِجمالاً وَتفصيلا

These branches of knowledge, which we used to be told of

These sciences that we used to be told of

These are the sciences of which we were told,

From the ancients, in outline and in detail,

In summary and detail about the ancients

Relating to the ancients, in summary and in detail.

سيقَت إِلَيكَ مُوَشّاةً مُهَذَبةً

سيقَت إِلَيكَ مُوَشّاةً مُهَذَبةً

فيها المَعارِفُ مَعقولاً وَمَنقولا

فيها المَعارِفُ مَعقولاً وَمَنقولا

Have been brought to you, adorned and refined;

Have been presented to you, refined and systematic

They have been conveyed to you, adorned and refined,

Within them lies knowledge, rational and transmitted.

In them, transmitted and rational knowledge

فَاِقطِف ثِمارَ المَعاني من حَدائِقِها

وَاِشرَب نَميراً منَ التَحقيق مَعسولا

وَاِشرَب نَميراً منَ التَحقيق مَعسولا

So pluck the fruits of meanings from their gardens,

So pluck the fruits of meaning from their gardens

And drink pure, honey-sweet water from rigorous inquiry.

And drink clear verified knowledge like honey

And drink a fresh draught of verification, sweet as honey.
