جعلواthey made القناthe spears أقلامهمtheir pens وطروسهمand their parchments
جعلوا القنا أقلامهم وطروسهم
مهجhearts العداthe foes ومدادهنَّand their ink دماءَهاtheir blood
مهج العدا ومدادهنَّ دماءَها
They made spears their pens, and their parchments
They made the spears their pens and the roosters their ink,
The hearts of foes, and their ink the foes’ blood.
The hearts of enemies their ink wells and their blood their ink,
وأظنand I think أنَّthat الأقدمينthe ancients لذاfor this reason رأواsaw fit
وأظن أنَّ الأقدمين لذا رأوا
أنto يجعلواmake خطيّةًKhattiyya (a name for spears) أسماءَهاtheir names
أن يجعلوا خطيّةً أسماءَها
And I think that, for this reason, the ancients saw fit
And I believe that is why the ancients
To give them the name “Khattiyya.”
Chose to make her name a sin.
