أَلَيسَis it not عَجيباًstrange بِأَنَّin that الفَتىthe young man
يُصابُis afflicted بِبَعضِby some of الَّذيwhat فيin يَدَيهِhis two hands
Is it not strange that a young man
Is it not strange that the youth
suffers the loss of some of what he holds,
Is afflicted by some of that in his hands
فَمِنthen from بَينِamong باكٍone weeping لَهُfor him موجِعٌheartrending

وَبَينِand among مُعِزٍّone offering condolences مُغذٍhastening إِلَيهِto him
and some weep heartrendingly for him,
So among those who weep for him there is a consoler
while others hasten to console him,
And between one who gives him solace there is a nourisher
وَيَسلِبُهُand robs him of الشَيبُgray hair شَرخَthe prime of الشَبابِyouth
فَلَيسَso there is not يُعَزّيهِconsoles him خَلقٌa soul عَلَيهِfor it
yet gray hair robs him of the prime of youth,
Yet old age robs him of the vigor of youth
and not a soul consoles him for it?
So no creature can console him for it
