وَإِذاand if الكَريمُthe noble man أَتَيتَهُyou came to him بِخَديعَةٍwith a ruse
فَرَأَيتَهُthen you saw him فيماin what تَرومُyou seek يُسارِعُhe hastens
And if you approach a noble man with a ruse,
and see him hastening toward what you seek,
فَاِعلَمthen know بِأَنَّكَthat you لَمdid not تُخادِعdeceive جاهِلاًan ignorant man
إِنَّindeed الكَريمَthe noble man بِفِعلِهِin his conduct يَتَخادَعُhe feigns being deceived
then know that you have not deceived an ignorant man:
indeed, the noble man, in his conduct, feigns being deceived.
