أَدنىshortest خُطاكَyour steps الهِندُIndia وَالصينُand China
أَدنى خُطاكَ الهِندُ وَالصينُ
وَكُلُّand every نَحسٍmisfortune بِكَwith you مَقرونُbound
وَكُلُّ نَحسٍ بِكَ مَقرونُ
Even your shortest steps reach India and China,
India and China bowed down at your slightest step,
And every misfortune is bound to you,
And every ill omen was linked to you.
بِحَيثُin a place where لاnot يَأنَسُfinds comfort مُستَأنِسٌone seeking companionship
بِحَيثُ لا يَأنَسُ مُستَأنِسٌ
وَحَيثُand where لاnot يَفرَحُrejoices مَحزونُa sorrowful person
وَحَيثُ لا يَفرَحُ مَحزونُ
Where one seeking companionship finds no comfort,
Where no one finds comfort though yearning for it,
And where the sorrowful find no joy.
And where no sad soul finds joy.
تَهويplunges بِكَwith you الأَرضُthe earth إِلىto بَلدَةٍa land
تَهوي بِكَ الأَرضُ إِلى بَلدَةٍ
لَيسَthere is not بِهاin it ماءٌwater وَلاand no طينُmud
لَيسَ بِها ماءٌ وَلا طينُ
The earth plunges with you into a land
Because of you the land plunges into a place
Where there is neither water nor mud.
With no water or mud in sight.
