صَفَحتُI pardoned بِرَغمِيَagainst my will عَنكَyou صَفحَa pardon ضَرورَةٍnecessity
إِلَيكَfor you وَفيand in قَلبيmy heart نُدوبٌscars مِنَfrom العَتبِreproach
I pardoned you against my will, compelled by need
I forgave you unwillingly out of necessity
for you, though my heart bears scars of reproach.
While in my heart remain wounds of reproach
خَضَعتُI submitted وَماand what ذَنبيmy fault إِنِif الحُبُّlove عَزَّنيoverpowered me
فَأَغضَيتُso I looked away صَفحاًin forgiveness فيin مُعالَجَةِstruggling with الحُبِّlove
I submitted—and what fault is mine if love overpowered me?
I submitted though I was not at fault, for love had saddened me
So I looked away in forgiveness as I struggled with love.
So I pardoned, trying to remedy love
وَماand not زالَceased بيwithin me فَقرٌneed إِلَيكَfor you مُنازِعٌcontending
يُذَلِّلُsubdues مِنّيin me كُلَّevery مُمتَنِعٍunyielding part صَعبِstubborn
And still my need for you wrestles within me,
And still in me remains poverty for you, resisting
subduing all in me that is unyielding and stubborn.
Making all stubbornness in me submissive
إِلىto اللَهِGod أَشكوI complain أَنَّthat وُدّيmy love مُحَصَّلٌheld
وَقَلبيand my heart جَميعاًentirely عِندَwith مُقتَسِمِone who shares out القَلبِthe heart
To God I complain that my love is held,
To God I complain that my love is forfeited
and my whole heart, by one who shares out his heart.
And my heart completely belongs to the divider of hearts
