إِذاwhen اِفتَقَرَbecomes poor المَولىthe ally سَعىstrives لَكَfor you جاهِداًearnestly
إِذا اِفتَقَرَ المَولى سَعى لَكَ جاهِداً
لِتَرضىso that you are pleased وَإِنand if نالَgains الغِنىwealth عَنكَaway from you أَدبَراturns away
لِتَرضى وَإِن نالَ الغِنى عَنكَ أَدبَرا
When an ally falls into poverty, he strives earnestly for you,
When the master is poor, he strives for you vigorously
To please you; but if he gains wealth, he turns away from you.
So you would be pleased, but if he gained wealth without you, he turns away
