فَمِلتِso you turned away وَقَدand perhaps يُشفىare cured ذَووthose possessing الرَأيِjudgment بِالعَذلِby reproach
You grew reluctant because I was a cousin you married,
I grew weary, as if I were a cousin who married her
So you turned away, though reproach may cure those with judgment.
So I'm tired of it, and those of sound opinion may be healed by separation
فَإِنَّكِfor indeed you إِلّاunless تَترُكيyou give up بَعضَsome of ماwhat أَرىI see
تُنازِعكِwill contend with you أُخرىanother woman كَالقَرينةِlike a paired companion فيon الحَبلِthe rope
For unless you give up some of what I see,
For unless you give up some of what I see
Another woman will contend with you, like a companion on the same rope.
Another will contend with you, like the companion rope of the tent rope
تَلُزُّكِshe will crowd you ماas much as اِسطاعَتshe can إِذاwhen كانَis قَسمُهاher share

She will crowd you as much as she can, when her share
She will jostle you as much as she can, if her share
Equals yours by right in long-held wealth and in the husband.
Is like your share, by rights of birth and by the husband
مَتىwhenever تَحمِليهاyou drive her مِنكِfrom you يَوماًone day لِحالَةٍinto a plight

Whenever you drive her one day into a plight of your making,
When will you bear with her one day because of a situation
And pursue her, she will one day drive you into the same.
Then she will bear you one day in the same way
