أفسد الحج ما أتاه حسين

ليس حجا ولا الحجاز حجاز
What Hussein did has corrupted the pilgrimage.
Hussein has spoiled the pilgrimage he came for
It is no pilgrimage, nor is the Hijaz the Hijaz.
It is no pilgrimage, nor is the Hejaz really the Hejaz
يرأسheads الركبthe caravan قنصلa consul جنرالgeneral
يرأس الركب قنصل جنرال
ولدىand at البيتthe House (Kaaba) ينشدhe sings المرسيازthe Marseillaise
ولدى البيت ينشد المرسياز
A consul general heads the caravan.
The caravan is led by a consul general
And at the House he sings the Marseillaise.
And near the House, the marseillaise is sung
حسبكsufficient for you اللّهGod ياO شريفSharif وحاشاand far be it
حسبك اللّه يا شريف وحاشا
منfrom شريفa nobleman للكفرto unbelief يبدوappears انحيازallegiance
من شريف للكفر يبدو انحياز
God is sufficient for you, O Sharif—and far be it
May God suffice you, O Sharif, and shame
that a nobleman should show allegiance to unbelief.
On a nobleman who shows bias for blasphemy
أيهاO you المجرمونcriminals دنياthis world وأخرىand the next
أيها المجرمون دنيا وأخرى
مثلماjust as قالsaid ربكمyour Lord فامتازواso stand apart
مثلما قال ربكم فامتازوا
O criminals in this world and the next,
O sinners in this world and the next
as your Lord has said, so stand apart!
Differentiate between yourselves, as your Lord has said
