A voice whose melody has long been yearned for

A melody long yearned for by our souls

By our souls, which it revived with song.

Which you brought to life with your chanting

أخرجت من ذلك الجب الذي سقطت

أخرجت من ذلك الجب الذي سقطت

فيه الصحائف مذ أرست على الوادي

فيه الصحائف مذ أرست على الوادي

You brought it out of that pit into which fell

You brought out from that pit which the pages fell into

The newspapers, ever since they anchored in the valley.

Since it descended upon the valley

وما الصحافة إلا الصوت يبعثه ال

إحساس فهو لديها الرائح الغادي

And the press is nothing but the voice sent forth by

For journalism is nothing but the voice that the feeling sends forth

Feeling, which comes and goes within it, evening and morning.

So for it, it is the fragrance that passes away

So pierce the depths of hearts with your voice, and say:

واطلق لسانك من قيد تشان به

فإن قولك خراق لأكباد

فإن قولك خراق لأكباد

And free your tongue from a fetter that disgraces you,

And unleash your tongue from the shackle of silence imposed on it

For your speech pierces deep into livers.

For your word rends open the innermost hearts

وغض طرفك عن تلك الجروح فما

وغض طرفك عن تلك الجروح فما

أسنى تغاضيك من آس وضماد

أسنى تغاضيك من آس وضماد

And avert your gaze from those wounds—for what

And turn your gaze away from those wounds for

A splendid healer and bandage your forbearance is!

Your overlooking is no worse than remedy and bandage

واظهر بمظهرك المستحسن الوطني

واظهر بمظهرك المستحسن الوطني

واظفر من الصدق في المسعى بإشهاد

واظفر من الصدق في المسعى بإشهاد

And appear in your well-regarded patriotic guise,

And show yourself in your finest, patriotic form

And earn attestation through sincerity in your endeavor.

And gain from sincerity in this effort a testament

شاركت قومي فيما مر من مضض

ولم تزدني البلايا غير إيقاد

I shared with my people the anguish they endured,

I shared with my people in what passed of torment

And calamities only kindled me further.

And the afflictions increased me in nothing but inflammation

وحسبك اليوم أن نسعى لصالحهم

وحسبك اليوم أن نسعى لصالحهم

حتى نسير بهم في المسلك الهادي

حتى نسير بهم في المسلك الهادي

And today it is enough for you that we strive for their welfare,

And it suffices you today that we strive for their betterment

Until we lead them along the guiding path.

Until we walk with them in the guided path

وللظروف سياسات تلائمها

وللظروف سياسات تلائمها

وللسياسي فيها حكم منطاد

وللسياسي فيها حكم منطاد

And circumstances have policies suited to them,

And circumstances have strategies befitting them

And amid them the statesman is like a balloon.

And for the politician in them is a considered judgment

حلق بأجوائها وانظر بوارقها

حلق بأجوائها وانظر بوارقها

فكل بارقة تومي لميعاد

فكل بارقة تومي لميعاد

Soar through their skies and watch their lightning flashes,

Take wing through its atmospheres and look at its lightnings

For every lightning flash points to an appointed time.

For each lightning heralds a promised time
