The truths—take them today as a portrayal,
The facts today are presented as a metaphor
For God, whether in outline or in detail.
For God, they were summary and detail
كرىslumber تثيرstirs منfrom الرائيthe beholder عواطفهhis emotions
كرى تثير من الرائي عواطفه
بينamong اليواقظthe wakeful لاnot حلماa dream وتأويلاand an interpretation
بين اليواقظ لا حلما وتأويلا
Slumber that stirs the beholder’s emotions,
Events that evoke emotions in the observer
Among the wakeful—not a dream and its interpretation.
Between the vigilant, not a dream or interpretation
ماwhat تعيدهbrings it back للأبصارto the eyes موعظةan admonition
ما تعيده للأبصار موعظة
تريكshows you للدهرof time تحويلاa transformation وتبديلاand a change
تريك للدهر تحويلا وتبديلا
What it brings back before the eyes is a lesson;
What repeats for sights is advice
It shows you time’s transformations and changes.
That shows you the changes of time and alteration
الصحائفthe pages للآباءof the forefathers ناصعةradiant
الصحائف للآباء ناصعة
بينwhile ترتلهاchants them الأيامthe days ترتيلاmeasured chanting
بين ترتلها الأيام ترتيلا
The forefathers’ pages are radiant,
The scriptures for the fathers are radiant
While the days chant them in measured cadence.
As days chant them in chanting
انهضrise بهمتكwith your resolve القعساthe unyielding كماas نهضواthey rose
انهض بهمتك القعسا كما نهضوا
واستحصلand attain المجدglory للآباءfor the forefathers تحصيلاan attainment
واستحصل المجد للآباء تحصيلا
Rise with your unyielding resolve, as they rose,
Rise with your determination though tired as they rose
And truly attain glory for the forefathers.
And acquire glory for the fathers in acquisition
لعمريby my life صلاحSalah (righteousness) الدينal-Din (the faith) خالدةimmortal
لعمري صلاح الدين خالدة
آثارهhis deeds الغرthe radiant مذsince أولتهit bestowed on him تجبيلاmolding into form
آثاره الغر مذ أولته تجبيلا
By my life, immortal are Salah al-Din’s
For my life, Saladin's achievements
Radiant deeds, since it gave him form.
Are immortal since I first glorified them
لمdid not تخلدbe immortalized فيin تاريخناour history الذهبيthe golden
لم تخلد في تاريخنا الذهبي
مماamong what يكللcrowns تاجthe crown العربthe Arabs تكليلاa crowning
مما يكلل تاج العرب تكليلا
They were not immortalized in our golden history,
Our golden history did not immortalize
Among what crowns the Arabs’ diadem.
