    عبد العزيز زعيمها

    So long live Tunisia, and long live

    Abd al-Aziz, her leader.

  2. ولمثلها فيديمه

    ولمثله فيديمها

    And for one such as her, may He preserve him;

    and for one such as him, may He preserve her.

  3. بعثت بشعري نحوه

    ليهب عنه نسيمها

    I sent my verse toward him,

    so that her breeze might waft from it.

  4. رفعت عقيرتها التي

    خلب العقول رخيمها

    I raised her voice, whose

    mellow tones bewitched minds.

  5. تلقى عصيهمو اذا

    ألقى عصاه كليمها

    Their staffs are cast down when

    her Moses casts down his staff.

  6. هذي ازاهره التي

    قد فاح منه شميمها

    These are his blossoms, whose

    fragrance has wafted from him.

  7. في الزاهرات نثيرها

    في المنشئات نظيمها

    Among radiant works is their scattered prose;

    among compositions, their strung verse.

  8. من ذاك ان سألوك قل

    عبد العزيز زعيمها

    If they ask you, 'Who is that?' say:

    Abd al-Aziz, her leader.
