To you as I desired from afar

A poem of love for you, from my verse.

A poem of my passion and song to you

عرضته قبل مبعثه عليكم

عرضته قبل مبعثه عليكم

وهاكه حسب صدقي في الوعود

وهاكه حسب صدقي في الوعود

I presented it to you before sending it,

I presented it before sending it your way

And here you have it, true to my promises.

And here it is, true to my promise

ولم أبخل به وبخلت عني

ولم أبخل به وبخلت عني

فلم تسمح بمقدمك السعيد

فلم تسمح بمقدمك السعيد

I did not withhold it, but you withheld from me,

I did not begrudge it, though you begrudged me

And would not grant me your joyous arrival.

And did not permit your happy approach

وقد أفرغت في الانشاد جهدي

وقد أفرغت في الانشاد جهدي

الى أن أبت بالجهد الجهيد

الى أن أبت بالجهد الجهيد

And I poured my effort into recitation,

I exerted myself in reciting and singing

Until I returned utterly exhausted.

Until I was exhausted by the great effort

تجاوزنا ثمانية عقودا

تجاوزنا ثمانية عقودا

فهل له بعد عتقه من مزيد

فهل له بعد عتقه من مزيد

We have passed eight decades;

We have traversed eight decades

So, after it has aged, is there any more for it?

What more can be added after its freedom?
