1. قم بالمهمة في حلّ ومرتحلِ

    أنا مع الوفد في قول وفي عمل

    Carry out the mission, whether staying or traveling.

    I am with the delegation in word and deed.

  2. سر أيها الوفد واستصحب ضمائرنا

    أيان تنقل خطاك اليوم تنتقل

    Go forth, O delegation, and take our consciences with you;

    Whenever your footsteps move today, our consciences move too.

  3. يا وفد تونس والدستور رائده

    حقق هنالك ما نرجوه من أمل

    O delegation of Tunisia, with the Destour as your guide,

    Fulfill there the hope we cherish.

  4. واشرح هناك مبادي الحزب واضحة

    وافضح دخائل ذي التدجيل والحيل

    And explain the party's principles clearly there;

    And expose the hidden motives of the man of imposture and guile.

  5. واكشف لباريز وجه الحق منبلجا

    حتى تشاهده الأحرار بالمقل

    And unveil to Paris the radiant face of justice,

    So that free men may see it with their eyes.

  6. هم أيدوه كما يروي مؤرخهم

    وعرّفوه كما قالوا إلى الدول

    They upheld it, as their historian recounts,

    And made it known to the nations, as they said.

  7. فلا يليق بهم أن ينكروه متى

    رأوه منا وفيهم بلسم العلل

    So it ill becomes them to deny it when

    They see it coming from us, while in them lies the balm for our ills.

  8. طال المطال على حق نطالبهم

    به وأفضى بنا الإهمال للملل

    Long has the stalling persisted over a right we call on them

    To grant; neglect has driven us to weariness.

  9. سل من تلاقيه تلق العسف أنهكه

    كم مرأة في الأسى منا وكم رجل

    Ask whomever you meet: you will find oppression has exhausted him.

    How many a woman among us is in grief, and how many a man!

  10. إنا وآلامنا أسباب نهضتنا

    في مأمن كلما اشتدت من الفشل

    Indeed we—our sufferings the causes of our awakening—

    Are safe from failure whenever those sufferings intensify.

  11. الخصم في جانب السلطات موضعه

    والشعب يقتحم الأخطار في السبل

    The adversary's place is on the authorities' side,

    While the people brave dangers on the roads.

  12. أبناؤه من بني الخضراء حانقة

    إذ التفوق للسادات لا الخلول

    Its sons, children of the Green Land, are enraged,

    Since supremacy belongs to masters, not close friends.

  13. عدوا مطالبنا في عرفهم شططا

    وعدّها الحرمنّا وهو في خجل

    They deemed our demands excessive by their own standards,

    And the free man among us deemed them so, in shame.

  14. ماذا طلبنا سوى التشريك في عمل

    فادأب عليه ولا تحفل بذل عذل

    What have we asked for but a share in the work?

    So persevere in it, and heed no shame from reproach.

  15. لا صبر إلا إذا كلّت يراعتنا

    ولا نراها بحول الله في كلل

    No patience, unless our pen grows weary;

    And, by God's power, we do not see it weary.

  16. ما ضرنا من يناوينا مشاغبة

    ويرتدي البرقع البالي على دخل

    We have not been harmed by one who opposes us to make trouble

    And wears a threadbare veil over hidden malice.

  17. يمشي الهوينا على دعواه ممتلئا

    عقلا وحسبك بالماشي على مهل

    He ambles along, filled—as he claims—

    With intellect—and that slow-paced walker should suffice you!

  18. ذرنا بربك ممن لا خلاق لهم

    إنا عن الخاذلين اليوم في شغل

    For your Lord's sake, spare us those who have no virtue;

    Indeed, today we are too occupied for those who forsake us.

  19. الله يثبت بالإخلاص حجّتنا

    طبق المؤمل إرغاما لمنخذل

    God, through sincerity, establishes our case,

    As hoped, humbling those who withheld support.

  20. شعبي الكريم عليك الوفد متكل

    بعد المهيمن فاشدد أزر متكل

    My noble people, the delegation relies on you,

    After the Guardian; so strengthen the back of one who relies on you.

  21. كن باتحادك نبراسا يضيء به

    ما أظلمته دياجي الشك والخطل

    Through your unity, be a beacon that illuminates

    What the dark nights of doubt and folly have darkened.

  22. واصدع بحقك في أسماع هاضمه

    مستبسلا غير هياب ولا وجل

    And proclaim your right into the ears of the one who denies it,

    Boldly, neither timid nor afraid.

  23. الحق حقك فاطلبه على شمم

    كيلا يمنوك بالتسويف والمطل

    The right is yours: demand it with your head held high,

    Lest they afflict you with procrastination and delay.

  24. ما كان إلا صريحا لا مراء به

    ما في المطالب من خدش ولا خلل

    It has always been clear, beyond dispute;

    There is neither blemish nor flaw in the demands.

  25. بدونها سئمت من عيشها مهج

    ترجو السلامة فاشفوها من العلل

    Without them, souls have grown weary of their lives,

    Longing for well-being—so heal them of their ills.

  26. هريو تقبل بترحاب تحيتنا

    فأنت للوفد حقا خير مقتبل

    Herriot, accept our greeting warmly,

    For you are truly the best host for the delegation.

  27. وافاك في الوفد حسب الوعد صالحنا

    أكرم بممتثل وافى لممتثل

    Our Salih has come to you in the delegation, as promised;

    How noble is a dutiful man who has come to another dutiful man!

  28. بالأحمدين يلاقيكم وطيبنا

    فاحفل بجمع على الأحرار مشتمل

    He meets you with the two Ahmads and our Tayyib,

    So honor a gathering that includes free men.

  29. إنا بعثنا به طبق الرجاء فلا

    تجعل رجانا لديكم غير محتمل

    Indeed, we sent it in keeping with our hope, so do not

    Regard our hope as something you cannot bear.
