She fell upon us
فاجأتناshe surprised us بابتسامwith a smile
فاجأتنا بابتسام
منfrom فمa mouth يحكيresembling اللجيناsilver
من فم يحكي اللجينا
She surprised us with a smile
She surprised us with a smile
from a mouth like silver.
From a mouth that speaks our suffering
فيin يديهاher two hands بسكلاتa bicycle
في يديها بسكلات
ليتهاif only it كانتhad been يديناour two hands
ليتها كانت يدينا
In her hands was a bicycle—
In her hands are presents
if only it had been our hands!
If only they were our hands
أنعمتناshe favored us بالتفاتwith a glance
أنعمتنا بالتفات
مذsince بهwith it نحنwe اكتفيناwere content
مذ به نحن اكتفينا
She favored us with a glance,
She graced us with her attention
since with that we were content.

A moment, in a lightning flash—
