After the greeting, I convey
With greetings I begin,
to the one who knows my true nature
To the All-Knowing I complain,
أعذارexcuses خلa close friend فإنso if هيthey
قدindeed أقنعتهhave convinced him وإلاand if not
a friend's excuses: if they
Excuses though they be vain,
have convinced him—and if not...
I hoped they'd make you satisfied, if not,
لاnot مستخفاdismissive بوعدof a promise
ولاnor اشتغالاpreoccupation بدعدwith Daʿd
not out of disregard for a promise,
I'm not one to break a promise,
nor from preoccupation with Daʿd,
Nor busy with the distance across us,
لكنماbut rather صوتa sound رعدthunder
استمطرcalled for rain from السحبthe clouds وبلاa downpour
but it was the sound of thunder
But thunder roared like a promise,
that called on the clouds for a downpour.
The clouds rained without pause,
ماnot أقلعتceased عنfrom حياهاtheir rain
وقلand diminished فيناamong us رغاهاtheir rumbling
They did not cease their rain,
It abandoned its life,
nor did their rumbling among us diminish,
And seldom found its voice,
وأقشعتand cleared away عنfrom سماهاtheir sky
حتىuntil تطهرتI cleansed myself غلاrancor
nor did they clear away from their sky,
The sky clouded above,
until I had cleansed myself of rancor.
Until clarity was rid of.

When I began to pray
When I began to pray,
my obligatory and voluntary prayers,
Obligatory or extra as they may,

ماnot كنتI was للفرضfor the obligatory prayer أهلاfit
I found myself, through my ignorance,
I found my ignorance had led me astray,
unfit for the obligatory prayer.
Unworthy I was on that day.
فعندso at ذاكthat انكمشتI shrank back
فيin مجثميmy resting place واندهشتand I was bewildered
Then I shrank back
So I recoiled in my cloak,
in my resting place, and was bewildered.
Bewildered, I hoped that if I spoke,
فلوso if رضيتyou were pleased انتعشتI would revive
فاصفحso pardon لتزدادso that you may gain فضلاmerit
If you were pleased, I would revive;
You would be gentler if I invoked,
so pardon me, that your merit may increase.
Please forgive me to increase your grace untold.

Judge, for your judgment will stand;

whatever you wish will be just.
However you decide is right and robust.

Kill, torment, and confiscate;
Kill, torture, confiscate amass,
for none can overturn your verdict at all.
None can question you, first and last.

In word and deed, rings true.

From dispersing, making us asunder.

My hands do not extend,

Or treat you in any other way.
