سل ما لقلبي تلظّى
وهو الوفي بعهدك
Ask why my heart has flared into flame,
though it is faithful to your covenant.
يسبح اسمك زلفى
الى جلالة مجدك
It glorifies your name, seeking nearness
to the majesty of your glory.
دعاه داعي التصابي
فجاء يسعى لعندك
The call of youthful dalliance summoned it,
so it came hastening to you.
يود لو ذاب شوقا
لكنه دار رصدك
It wishes it could melt with longing,
yet it is a dwelling keeping watch for you.
مسني اليك وداد
يثير كامن وجدك
Affection for you has touched me,
stirring the hidden longing for you.
حافظت دهرا عيه
على مقاساة بعدك
For ages I have guarded it [reading uncertain],
despite the suffering of your absence.
مرت علي ليال
لا ترتضيها لعبدك
Nights have passed over me
that you would not wish upon your servant.
دأبي العويل الى أن
يسرني نجم سعدك
Wailing is my wont until
the star of your good fortune gladdens me.
أنت المنى أنت قصدي
كما أنا جل قصدك
You are my desire; you are my aim,
just as I am your foremost aim.
لنا ارتباط قوي
حافظ عليه بجهدك
A strong bond unites us;
guard it with your utmost effort.
صان الإله فؤادي
لأنه بيت ودك
God has safeguarded my heart,
because it is the home of your love.
ألقيت فيه المراسي
لقطع دابر ضدك
You cast the anchors into it
to cut off the last remnant of your foe.
لك الولاء عليه
فلا سبيل لجحدك
Its allegiance belongs to you;
so there is no way to deny you.
حاشاك تنكث عهدي
أوتبتليني بصدك
Far be it from you to break faith with me,
or afflict me by turning away.
بك الحياة وإلا
فقدت نفسي لفقدك
Through you comes life; otherwise,
I would lose myself at the loss of you.
أسرت قلبي لطفا
به انفردت لوحدك
You gently took my heart captive;
you alone have it to yourself.
يديمك الله حق
نفي إليّ برعدك
