Its evils have multiplied among us,
Its evils amongst us have multiplied
because of its corruption and ignorance.

كشفwas lifted الستارthe veil عنfrom الخناlewdness
كشف الستار عن الخنا
متسارعينrushing لنهلهto drink of it
متسارعين لنهله
The veil has been lifted from lewdness,
It has uncovered disgrace
as they rush to drink of it.
Rushing to indulge in it
يخطوstrides بهمwith them حاديthe driver الهوىdesire
يخطو بهم حادي الهوى
فيthrough وعرهits rough terrain أوor سهلهits smooth terrain
في وعره أو سهله
Desire's driver leads them onward,
Passion's guide leads them
through its rough terrain or its smooth.
Through its rugged and smooth terrain
هذاthis man يغازلcourts هذهthis woman
هذا يغازل هذه
كلeach أصيبwas stricken بعقلهin his mind
كل أصيب بعقله
This man courts this woman;
One courts another
each has been stricken in mind.
Each smitten with foolishness
نسجwove المغازلthe wooer غزلهhis love verse
نسج المغازل غزله
تعساwoe لهto him ولغزلهand to his love verse
تعسا له ولغزله
The wooer has woven his love verse;
He weaves his flirtations
