سأرفع عن لسان الشعب شكري

لأرباب الصحافة أجمعينا

لأرباب الصحافة أجمعينا

I shall offer my thanks on the people's behalf

I will lift off the tongue of the people my gratitude

To all the masters of the press.

To the masters of the press altogether

وأرفع عن لسانهمو ثنائي

وأرفع عن لسانهمو ثنائي

لأحرار البلاد المخلصينا

لأحرار البلاد المخلصينا

And on their behalf I shall offer my praise

And I will lift off their tongues my praise

To the country's devoted free men.

To the free people of the country, the sincere ones

بأيديهم لبست الفخر تاجا

بأيديهم لبست الفخر تاجا

وكنت لأجل صالحهم سجينا

وكنت لأجل صالحهم سجينا

By their hands I donned glory as a crown,

With their hands glory wore a crown

And for their welfare I was a prisoner.

And for their goodness I was a prisoner

لئن سميت بالجندي رغما

لئن سميت بالجندي رغما

علي وإن يكن شرفا ثمينا

علي وإن يكن شرفا ثمينا

If indeed I was called 'the soldier' against

If I was called a soldier in spite of myself

My will—though it be a precious honor—

It is upon me an honor, even if precious

فقد سميت في الشعرا كبيرا

فقد سميت في الشعرا كبيرا

برغمي والحقيقة كنت دونا

برغمي والحقيقة كنت دونا

I was also called great among the poets,

Yet in poetry I was called great

Against my will, though in truth I was lesser.

In spite of myself, and the truth is I was inferior

فها أنا شاعر فيهم وجندي

فها أنا شاعر فيهم وجندي

وذو السيفين أفتحها حصونا

وذو السيفين أفتحها حصونا

So here I am, a poet among them and a soldier,

So here I am a poet among them and a soldier

And, wielding two swords, I conquer fortresses.

The bearer of two swords, I open fortresses

وربّ العرش ناصرنا جميعا

وربّ العرش ناصرنا جميعا

أليس اللّه خير الناصرينا

أليس اللّه خير الناصرينا

And the Lord of the Throne helps us all:

And the Lord of the Throne is all our supporter

Is not God the best of helpers?

Is not Allah the best of supporters?
