Why should I listen to the reproachers' words?
I do not heed the words of the slanderer
What concern have they with loving Asma, or with me?
They have no love for the names of my friend

She is but a soft sandhill in a slender form;
They are but rumors in fiction
she is but a slender form in a soft sandhill.
They are but fiction in rumors

I said, "Kohl, even if she doesn't apply kohl"

It was said, 'Then look at her mouth amid her hair.'
It was said, "Then look at her mouth in her hair"
I said, 'This darkness above that radiance.'
I said, "That darkness above the sickle blade"

Where is one granted refuge from one afflicted?

Extravagance said to her, "Be stingy!"

The fragrance of musk spread, the fragrance of a wrap

No slain by beauty but a living Amr
and passion is his, and poetry mine.
And passion is his, poetry is mine

One named after the Prophet, the messenger?
