Whenever I say my love for you is fading, it is renewed.

And through you that passion returns as it first arose.

You are my beloveds, in displeasure and contentment.

So do not treat me as enemies do.

Peace upon your days—how delightful they were!

And how pleasant! My soul is a ransom for your days [text uncertain].

O you who draw water from the ravine of Ramah,

Were the waters of my eye not enough as your watering place?

O you who dwell in my heart, how have you settled there,

When within it a fire of longing blazes?

For your sake, we defied everyone who reproached us for loving you.

So do not heed reproachers and the envious speaking against us.

Sweet and untroubled be the sleep of your eyelids,

While my longing for you makes me rise and sit again.

When will this world grant me nearness to your abode?

When will the days reunite a scattered company?

At every moment I speak to myself in remembrance of you,

And ask after you of everyone traveling at evening or dawn.

O traveler to the farthest reaches of Dhuʾwal, borne

By a swift she-camel folding up deserts and barren plains,

When you reach the peerless mosque, kiss

Its earth, and say, “My soul is your ransom, O mosque!”

Meet a beloved, then kiss the fingertips

Of Ahmad—may God bless Ahmad's countenance!

For he is the imam of learning and the guiding standard,

Through whom God has guided those He guided among His creatures.

And he is the one—were it not for his brow's brightness,

The path of guidance would have turned black.

    He is the revolving star, gleaming with radiance;

His example is followed on the path of learning and religion.

He has a sanctuary whose worth God has exalted,

So one seeking refuge there fears neither enemies nor the envious [text uncertain].

    فزائر ذاك السوح مَا خابَ مَقصَدا

    Whoever visits him spends the evening in a garden of paradise;

No visitor to that precinct fails in his purpose.

O God's proof, who is an exemplar

For those who do not see the pure Prophet Muhammad,

Upon his blessed face be every greeting,

Blessed, as long as gray doves mourn and sing.

When the Abdal and the foremost masters are counted

For learning and forbearance, Ahmad is unrivaled.

And if the masters are ever praised for their deeds,

We find Abu al-Abbas Ahmad most worthy of praise.

Your constant companion has no fear, and I have always remained

Your companion, having bound my hand firmly in yours.

I do not place my hopes in you for today alone,

But I place my hopes in you for today and tomorrow,

To attain high rank in this world through your standing,

And meet you in the hereafter, charging forth and bringing aid.

Will you then consent to have me as your servant?

For, by God's truth, I accept you as my master.

Then say: “You are safe from every calamity,

And you have become one of us, with no fear of death.”

May He who preserved you preserve you, perfect, for humankind,

And He who gave you life keep you alive for learning and guidance.
