مُسْتَعْبقاً وبمسكه وبندّه
The breeze came by night with its wormwood and its laurel,
The breeze knocked with its fragrance and coolness
wafting fragrance, with its musk and its incense.
Bringing musk, ambergris, and scent

And the clouds' eyes streamed down upon the hills,
The clouds' tears dripped on the countryside
and its blossoms smiled amid its roses.
As its flowers smiled in their blossoms

Welcome to those arriving, for they
Welcome, O comers, though you're now far
are my desire, whether the place of meeting is near or far.
I'm close whether near or away from the shrine

My tears suffice as a telltale, for so often
My tears suffice as a guide, though I hid
they have revealed my passion for them, though I did not disclose it.
My longing, it still appeared in my mien

They flow as blood over my cheek, as though
My cheeks run blood, as if traced there
their young oryx had infected it with his cheek's redness.
By their rosy soft hands that burn within

A gazelle fawn who raises a straightened spear within his clothes,
A young man, dressed richly, erect and proud
fashioned from his figure, its point from his breast,
Pearls smiling from his mouth that my heart can't resist

smiling to reveal pearls in a mouth
As if his necklace and lips were the same
whose coolness has burned the yearning heart.
His lips and necklace were one, joy proclaimed

And as though what is in his necklace were in his mouth,
Time's march stooped an era that's gone
and as though what is in his mouth were in his necklace.
How I yearned for their love as life moved on

Time has granted the return of the days at al-Munhana,
Today let my wishes from them come true
and how often, out of passion, I yearned for their return!
And time fulfill the promise it's due

Today, reunion has brought me what I sought
O joy of life, your dawns have emerged
from them, and time has kept its promise to me.
As days of yore return from night's verge

O joy of the world! For its gladness
The clouds dragged their tails over the plains
has dawned in auspicious signs, as in its days of old.
Raining in the valleys and highlands

The cloud poured its train upon al-Wu'ayrah,
Happy for Saif al-Din who came here
and streamed into the land's lowlands and uplands,
Relieving grief with his help and cheer

rejoicing in Sayf al-Din when he settled there.
Prosperity arrived before his troops
He dispelled distress through his victory and his good fortune.

He arrived, and good fortune led the way, shining before him,
His horses surging in serried lines
so one could almost see his face from afar,
Warriors ready, armored for the charge

amid a host whose horses are massed in squadrons,
If Dajjal saw his lances' blue
raptors for the armored warriors within its woven mail.
His soul would flee his body in fear

Were al-Dajjal to behold the blue points of his spears
Or if Dhul Qarnayn saw his resolute might
amid the battle-dust, his soul would fly out of his skin.
The pride of his ramparts would vanish from sight

Or if Dhu al-Qarnayn witnessed his resolve,
His army intent around him, arrayed
the qualities of his barrier's construction would seem trifling to him.

مذ كان ما جاء الزمان بندّه
And the army rings him round, a noble chief
A man whom all the world obeys
whose equal time has never brought forth since he came to be.
Like servants responding to his lead

رجلُ جميعُ العالمين مطيعة

مثلُ الُعبيد لحَلّه ولعقده
A man whom all the world's peoples obey,
My Lord, you know my love won't fade
like slaves, in all he loosens and binds.
A Lord doesn't deny his servant's need

My lord, my love is not hidden from you;
I raised and supported him from a child
a lord does not deny his servant's love.
Saving him from time's perils so wild

And I am the one who raised him and cared for him,
May Allah not leave your home deprived
and drew him by his forearm from time's calamities.

May God never leave the dwellings desolate without you, as long as
the breeze comes by night with its wormwood and its laurel.
