May the familiar traces of her dwelling at al-Abraqayn be watered

By rain that revives dwellings whenever it greets them.

And may every lingering raincloud pour its rain upon them,

Its mounts enshrouded by the south wind's drops.

And how desirable those dwellings were to me,

And how beautiful in my eyes, and how sweet!

And how splendid they were, how sweet their water,

And how hospitable their lodging, how fine their pasture!

Until separation took their sun away from me,

And through parting put their destination far from me.

And I entered the lowlands of al-Sham, while her home

Is in Najran—so I ask: how could I meet her?

And truly I cherish her affection and honor her pledges,

And am moved whenever a mention of her reaches my ears.

So do not hope, you two, that I will forsake my love for her,

And turn away from her after having loved her.

And no heart desists when passion has consumed it,

Nor does a soul find guidance when God has led it astray.

Good fortune to the pale camels, if Mufarrih has heightened

Their stature, and if he has raised their ascent above the star.
