I call to you, and my tears stream down.

And within my ribs the embers of grief blaze.

And I say: O people of the sanctuary, the loftiest sanctuary,

Do not disown me; acquaintances are not disowned.

And are not your home and mine within the sanctuary?

We have a blameless noonday resting place and a place for evening talk.

And I am truly your brother; our branch

Is one branch, and our stock is likewise one stock.

My flesh is of your flesh, and my blood of your blood.

And loving you I shall die and be gathered at resurrection.

I have not shunned you; why, then, do you shun me?

I have not abandoned you; why, then, am I abandoned?

And the forearm does not deny the hand's closeness [uncertain reading].

And the eye socket is not harsh toward the eye.

And God, Lord of the Throne, is aware

That I truly harbor pure affection for you.

And if every companion changes in friendship,

Then I am the one who, by God, will not change.

Who will inform all the tribes, wherever

Their highland-dweller has settled, and the obscure one too,

That the virtuous Abu Suhayl has shielded us

From every calamity feared and guarded against?

Abu Bakr revived Suhayl and others besides him.

No—rather, Abu Bakr is more exalted and greater.

Through him, Kadra of Siham prospered and was rebuilt.

Without him, its ruins would not be rebuilt.

And I set out; all the tribes seek refuge in it.

So the matter that proves difficult is made easy.

Solicitous toward all his subjects, compassionate,

So their fellowship remains strung together, not scattered.
